SF New Deal is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that provides supportive services and financial opportunities for under-resourced small businesses in San Francisco, with the goal to strengthen neighborhood vibrancy across the city. Since its launch in March 2020, SFND has disbursed over $54 million to more than 1,700 small businesses citywide through a host of diverse programs like Vacant to Vibrant and small business grants programs. SFND's work is funded through private donations and government contracts.

In my role as SF New Deal's Lead Visual Designer, I had the honor of designing and illustrating their 2024 Impact Report, From the Ground Floor. This report captures the organization's commitment to empowering small businesses across San Francisco. In 2024, SF New Deal supported 701 small businesses with nearly $7 million in funding, expanded its Vacant to Vibrant program, launched Building Blocks, and collaborated directly with community members to revitalize SF neighborhoods. This piece is a testament to the resilience and creativity of our city, and I'm proud to have contributed to bringing these stories to life.

Vacant to Vibrant is a program by SF New Deal and the City of San Francisco that is transforming downtown vacancies into vibrant communities, shaped by local small businesses. I had the pleasure of designing Vacant to Vibrant's summer out-of-home campaign, featuring art by local artist Felicia Liang, who's done art for the program for the past three years. The campaign rolled out in early July on select MUNI buses, transit stations, and at the Powell Street Cable Car Turnaround!

The MUNI and transit campaign features current pop-up activator Taylor Jay and the pop-up to permanent small businesses owners of Koolfi Creamery, Devil's Teeth Baking Company, KALW Radio, and Hungry Crumbs. The flags at the Powell Street Cable Car Turnaround on Hallidie Plaza feature current Vacant to Vibrant pop-up activators in Union Square: Nooworks, Taylor Jay, and Al Pastor Papi. The campaign aims to capture the excitement of new pop-ups opening in Downtown San Francisco.
